Furniture Sharehouse

Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester’s Furniture Bank, collects gently-used furniture from the public and distributes it free of charge directly to Westchester families in need.

Each year they help over 460 families and rely on public donations, since 2007 have provided over 68,000 items to help fill empty homes and help individuals rebuild their lives. The business model relies on a central location drop off to reduce trucking fees. They are actively seeking collaborations with Westchester municipalities to place a furniture collection bin in their recycling yard for resident drop-off; adding to those in Larchmont, Tuckahoe, and the Village of Scarsdale. It’s a win-win as the bins reinforce municipal commitment to recycling, provide residents with a convenient place to recycle these items and they reduce bulk waste pick-ups and cost.

Donation and collaboration details can be found here or learn more at

Public Space Recycling

Imagine a county-wide consistent looking recycling infrastructure that will help foster correct recycling behavior & cut cost!

How will it work? Sustainable Westchester will aggregate the interests of all stakeholders, collaborate with respective municipal staff/Conservation Advisory Councils to meet community needs and put the power of “collective” to work behind a bulk purchase for lower costs and increased efficiency.

No more recycling bins in public spaces in different sizes, shapes and colors! There are so many possibilities for many public spaces installations from government buildings to parks to shopping or transit areas & more.
